L3SA1 88-91 Cable FWD D Series
$119.99
Why We Developed This
The 1988-1991 Civic came factory with a cable clutch setup. That works fine for a stock car, but the cable becomes a weak point when you start adding power, using a stronger pressure plate, or putting the car in a racing environment.
Over time, the clutch cable can stretch, break, or put enough stress on the pedal assembly that the pedal area can crack or fail.
Most people today use our cable-to-hydro conversion when they are installing a newer hydraulic transmission. This kit is for the group that still wants to keep the original cable D-series transmission, but also wants to eliminate the cable problem.
This setup allows a hydraulic clutch system to work with the original 1988-1991 Honda FWD cable D-series transmission, commonly known as the L3.
It eliminates the clutch cable, works with our hydraulic conversion setup, and allows you to keep your cable D-series transmission while solving the weak points that come with the factory cable system.
Fitment
The L3 transmission was used across several chassis and trim models including DX, LX, Si, and ZC. While the chassis may vary, the FWD L3 transmission case is the same across those platforms, so fitment is based on the transmission, not the chassis.
This kit is not limited to 88-91 Civic chassis. If your car has a hydraulic clutch system, this setup can work in virtually any chassis where the L3 transmission is being used. Clearance and space are chassis-dependent, so confirm you have adequate room when installing into body styles outside the 88-91 FWD Civic frame.
Clutch Line
The clutch line inlet is 10mm x 1.0, 45 degree female inverted flare. The kit is universal, but your chassis may require a custom clutch line.
A straight male tube, like what is shown in our mounted photos, works well. We can make custom clutch lines in-house. Message us with your chassis and setup and we will help you get the correct line.
